Review

This book (Polar Boy) is about a young boy named lluak and a Polar Bear.

The main characters are Iluak, Finn, Miki, Nana and Grandpa. When Iluak fell in the ice cold water he almost got eaten by a seal then a raven came past. Iluak realised that if a raven comes flying past it means you might die but when he got out of the ice cold water he was getting all the treatment that he needed. Finn treats Miki like a sister.

After Iluak got all the treatment he needed he went for a walk and on that walk Iluak noticed that something was lying down on the ice. So when he got a bit closer he noticed that it a was a sick polar bear. They just left the bear alone. Then they go fishing for seal and bow headed whales for something to eat.

To conclude the chapters were a bit lengthy and boring I would of enjoyed this book if there was more exciting events in the chapters. For example if they speared something  that wasn’t a seal. I give this book a 8/10!

Polar Boy

Review: by Sandy Fussell.

In the book Polar Boy a small boy named Iluak is afraid of whiter things, by this I mean polar bears.

Iluak is big a coward, nothing like his grandfather. His grandfather is not afraid of anything. Iluak finds himself getting nothing but bad luck. He is almost eaten by a seal and sees a raven which is known as the bird of death. Throughout this book he finds himself getting stalked by the raven.

In the middle of this story Iluak’s family finds a sick polar bear cub in a cave by itself. So they took the cub back to the igloo to heal it.

Getting to the end of the book Miki and her friend went into the snow. Then they see a polar bear, Iluak’s worst fear. Miki runs for help but her friend stayed in shock.

So when she got back she panicked and went looking for her. Iluak knew he had to step up and face his fears. He starts looking for the girl even if it means risking his life.

In the end they found the girl and Iluak faces his fears of whiter things. They heal the cub and let it go to its polar bear parent while Finn and Iluak go to Greenland to study hunting.

This book is great for kids from 8-13. If you like a book about polar bears and fears being conquered this is the book for you. Sandy Fussell has done great job and I can not wait to read one of her other books. I give this book a 7/ 10.
