In 5W we use many different Teaching ideas, these are the activities and practices that teachers use with students to help them learn how to use comprehension strategies. Here, we have just finished the 'Weave a Web of Understanding' Teaching idea which teaches the comprehension strategy of summarising.

This is a fun way to conclude a lesson.

Balinese Culture

Batik is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Batik or fabrics with the traditional batik patterns are found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China, Azerbaijan, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Singapore. This week 5W used flour and water instead of wax to create a similar effect. The children enjoyed this art technique and the finished product will remain a cherished artifact of their Year 5 schooling for many years.
